weeks. and romney's trying to go big with big change. paul ryan gave i think quite a good speech on social mobility and poverty earlier in the week. romney gave what was billed as a major speech on the economy, i'm not sure how new it was but they are trying to go big and talk about big issues. the obama campaign i think is going small and even deeper into microtargeting. they have this linda dunham video targeted it to single women. they've got a series of more tightly targeted. they're doing the binders, still doing the binders for women, much more negative stuff. personally i don't know if it will be effective. personally i like the way the romney campaign is try to be more substantive but romney overwhelmingly negative. >> i come back to the walter monday dale race with gary hart. where's the beef. i have heard romney talk about big change, big change. i know he is large bills but i -- know he was big change. this is just, it's just an adjective and a known. as far as paul ryan's speech on poverty, i mean paul ryan's budget, 62% of the cuts in his budget came fro programs for po

, in the dan henneger article, he cites, quotes you directly that paul ryan, putting paul ryan as you just suggested, a catholic, will actually fire up the evangelical vote. >> no question about it. you know, paul ryan is mostly known for his work on the budget, for his plans to reform and save medicare. and he's mostly known for his stands on fiscal issues. but you know very well, larry, that paul ryan is a serious and devout and faithful catholic. he takes his faith very seriously. he wrote an open letter to the catholic bishops defending his budget. according to catholic social teachings, specifically solidarity and subsidiarity which states that help for the poor and the needy should be at the point closest to the need and should not be bureaucratic. he's pro life. he's pro marriage. he's pro family. i'll tell you this, on economic issues, as well as cultural issues, when mitt romney picked paul ryan, he made it clear that he was not comfortable to just be the anti-obama. that he wanted to lean forward and have a reform-oriented, forwar forward-leaning campaign. a real alternative

enough security protection sounds good. until you realize that it was paul ryan and the ideological republican tea party caucus that tried to cut that budget by $300 million so that the president and joe biden and secretary clinton didn't have enough money as they requested to try to provide security. so you get caught up in these things. yeah, they have -- they get amnesia, or romnesia, however you want to speak about it, when you talk about foreign policy and they forget that it was president bush. that got us into the worst foreign policy debacle in the history of this country. we will be digging ourselves out of the hole in iraq for a long, long time. because of failed intelligence and a variety of other thins. these guys remained -- remind me of a sports announcer. you watch the beginning of the football team and the analyst says, this team is going to win for sure, this is going to be a blowout. then the game is over and they were wrong they don't mention that they were wrong and made bad predicts. that's what these guys remind me of. you guys cause halved of these problems, 3

right. now, paul ryan has been seen as an asset, obviously, to governor romney and he has been making a whole lot of appearances. i'll tell you, the crowd behind me is getting excited, ashleigh, because air force one is taxing over towards us where president obama is going to be coming out shortly and making his remarks. yes, paul ryan has been an asset to governor romney. it's why some are saying the race here has been pretty tight, although there is a small lead, a consistent lead, for president obama. today we saw "wall street journ journal" nbc news poll, three points up the president is here in wisconsin. yesterday there was a poll in milwaukee, a marquette university poll that had the president up by much more, eight points. you talk to the obama campaign, they'll point to that marquette poll and they'll say it's more accurate. it seems likie internal polls ae in between the two. the bottom line, while he has a lead that is significant, you have to pay attention to it, it's not quite comfortable. that's why you're seeing president obama here today. we saw joe biden here last week.
